The Daybook Enterprise 6 manuals

Getting Started

The manuals for each volume of Daybook Enterprise has three sections: Setup, Tutorial and Reference.

Setup

This section of each manual is designed to aid you in setting up each volume for your own use, prior to every day use.

Tutorial

This section of each manual is designed to teach you the basics of the volume using the tutorial data file.

Reference

This section of each manual is an exhaustive list of every feature in the volume. There are plenty of useful functions which are only covered in this manual, so please refer to it each time you use a new feature.

There are also the following system-wide manuals:

Getting started manual

This manual is designed to help you to do just that: it’s not intended to show you how to use the system, or how to optimise it for your company, but how to install and load up the software for the first time, how to set up a Business Template for your company and how to create your opening balances. It also includes brief details covering data entry and retrieval.

Core functions manual

Describes the generic features and tools of Daybook Enterprise which can be used at any time. In addition to data entry and retrieval, this manual includes details of multi-processes, the palettes, the built-in macro language and reporting and graphing. It also covers the Data Manager volume, containing details of the entering of look-up information, the setting of Preferences and the data utilities available in the Data Manager. The manual also includes a trouble-shooting guide (including the use of 4D Tools) and appendices.

Core data manual

Covers the entry and management of Company, Contact and Product information.

Diary Manager manual

Includes full details of the Diary Manager contact management system.

How to use the manuals

When using Daybook for the first time, it is recommended that you first read the Getting Started manual in its entirety. As well as the installation instructions, it contains a description to the basic concepts of accounting that you will be using and will introduce you to the basic tools and features of Daybook. The manual should be read in conjunction with the Daybook tutorial data file. The first chapter of the Core Functions manual should be read next: this will equip you with the skills to use every volume in Daybook. You should then follow the two Tutorial sections of the Core Data manual, followed by that in the Diary Manager manual. The final stage is to follow the Tutorial sections of the manuals covering individual volumes using the Tutorial data file.

Mac and Windows
Daybook Enterprise is available for both Macintosh and Windows machines. Please note that most of the illustrations in these manuals were taken from the Macintosh version. There may be small variations in the appearance of the Windows version, but there is no difference in the way Daybook works. References to keystrokes should be interpreted as follows:

Macintosh Windows

<Command> <Control>

<Option> <Alt>

<Control> no equivalent

For example, a reference to <Command-Q> is to the Macintosh keyboard. Even if it is not mentioned explicitly, there will always be a Windows equivalent using the same letter, such as, in this example, <Control-Q>. References in the manuals will usually show both forms.
