Working with Enterprise 6

Data input buttons

The buttons palette is divided into three sections. The data input buttons are in the top section.

[Cancel]   (command-. or control-.)

Cancels the current action. Any changes made to the current record are not saved. Use [Cancel] if you change your mind about modifications you’ve just made, or to exit from a blank entry screen. You can also click the Close box at the top left of each window and select [Don’t Save] to have the same effect as clicking the [Cancel] button on the palette. This button is usually referred to as the [X] button.

[Accept]   (Enter)

Often also referred to as [Accept], [Save], or sometimes the [OK] button, this completes and saves the current record. If you are entering new records and have Batch Entry switched on you will then be presented with a blank screen and asked for the next record - at which stage you should click [Cancel] if you wish to return to the Title Screen. The <Enter> key also Accepts the current record, so should not be pressed in place of <Return> or <Tab>. You can also click the Close box at the top left of each window and select [Save] to have the same effect as clicking the [Accept] button on the palette. This button is usually referred to as the [√] button.

[Delete record]

Permanently removes the current record - if you have deletions access to the system or currently selected volume. You will normally receive a warning before you are allowed to delete anything. Note that this button is only available when modifying an existing record - it is not available when a new record is on screen. This button is sometimes referred to as the [Delete] button.

[New]   (command-n or control-n)

This button is available on input screens where there is an included list. It is used to add items to that included list. Where the included list does not have an [Editable/Selectable mode] button in its bottom right-hand corner, it must be activated by clicking with the mouse (ie must have a flashing black triangle at its top left corner) prior to clicking the button. Note that the button is enabled for all pages of a multi-page layout, even for those pages without an included list, if there is an included list somewhere on one of the pages. This button is usually referred the [+] button.

[Remove line]   (command-shift-, or control-shift-,)

This button is available on input screens where there is at least one included list. It is used to remove items from that included list. At least one item in the included list should be selected prior to using the button. Note that the button is enabled for all pages of a multi-page layout, even for those pages without an included list. This button is usually referred to as the [-] button.

[Previous record]

This button is only enabled if you have more than one record in the current selection. In other words, you may have performed a query which found and listed several items and double-clicked on one to modify it. Alternatively, you may have performed a query from an input layout (see below under [Find]). Clicking it saves the current record and moves to the previous one selected (ie the one in the list above the one you double-clicked on). Similarly if you double-click on a line in an included list, the [Previous record] button can be used to move to the previous item in that list.

[Next record]

Behaves as for [Previous record] above, except that it brings up the next record in the list or included list.

[First record]

Behaves as for [Previous record] above, except that it brings up the first record of the list or included list.

[Last record]

Behaves as for [Previous record] above, except that it brings up the last record of the list or included list.
