Price Matrix Reference

Price matrix preferences

There is a field in the Sales Orders & Ledger section of Preferences, called ‘General Company Price Group’. This can be used to apply a secondary level of discount on top of (if one exists) a Product-based discount.

For example, if you create a Price Group GEN, make it discount-based and set the Preferences field also to GEN. Then make entries to the Price Table giving this Price Group plus specified Company Codes and specific discounts for each Company. Exclude any references to Products (by Product Code, Group or Brand) - they will be ignored in any case.

When you enter a Sales Order for one of these Companies, and type the Product Code for an item for which a Product-based discount exists, the normal Product Price Group Code will appear, but the discount percentage will be increased. Note that the increase will not be exactly the same amount as the General Company Discount specified due to the fact that the General Company Discount is applied after the Product one: thus a Product Discount of 45% plus a Company Discount of 10% results in an overall discount of 50.5%. If no Product Discount is found for a given Order Item, the GEN discount will be applied anyway, and its code will in this case be displayed.

In the Price Groups set-up there is a check box entitled ‘Override General Company Discount’. If this is checked for one of the normal Product discount Groups, the General Company Discount percentage will not be added. It is possible to apply a General Company Discount to an Order Item line without a Product Code. The GEN Code will not default, but can be typed, in which case the relevant Company’s General Discount is looked up and applied.
