EnquiryWriter Introduction

The EnquiryWriter is part of the Diary Manager, and has a separate menu. It is used to track potential Sales Orders as they progress through the Enquiry and Quotation Stages towards Order status. It will most often be used by sales personnel as they progress their contacts through to the Order stage.

The ‘Enter Enquiry’, ‘Enter Quotation’ and ‘Enter New Order’ functions use a basic version of the Sales Order entry screen which does not include any Order Processing or Stock Control fields. EnquiryWriter users cannot increase the File State of an Enquiry beyond New Order. Therefore many functions such as invoicing, which require the Order to be Confirmed, cannot be used.

Note that the terms ‘Enquiry’ and ‘Quotation’ can be altered to ‘Inquiry’ and ‘Estimate’ using the Terminology function in the Data Manager. Note also that these terms, together with ‘New Order’, are used in this chapter as convenient methods of referring to the first three File States (sorted by State Code) of the Sales Orders file. You may have set up your File States using slightly different terminology. The text of the menu items ‘Enter Enquiry’, ‘Enter Quotation’ and ‘Enter New Order’ (or ‘Enter Inquiry’ and ‘Enter Estimate’) will alter according to your File State terminology, so where they are used in this manual they should be interpreted as ‘Enter Sales Order of the first File State’, ‘Enter Sales Order of the second File State’ and ‘Enter Sales Order of the third File State’ respectively. Please refer to the File States and Terminology sections of the Core Functions manual for more details.
